"I am a Vocational Specialist for Mental Health Services in Croydon, I have been using Catbytes for many years and have found their support for my clients invaluable. I have had clients volunteer with Catbytes and they have reported it as a really good place to volunteer. I have also been able to support my clients to get laptops from Catbytes so they can achieve their vocational goals of starting online courses or applying for jobs online. The staff at Catbytes are always so helpful and go out of their way to support the local community."

Emma Crilly, Vocational Specialist for South London and Maudsley

"The Digital Access for All project has been an essential support for many of the patients I have referred. It has helped reduce digital exclusion by building confidence and skills in a safe, supportive environment. Several people who previously struggled with tasks such as accessing GP websites, using the NHS App, or managing online forms now feel far more independent and connected. Your team’s patient, person-centred approach has made a tangible difference, not just in digital literacy, but also in reducing anxiety and improving access to healthcare and wider services. From my perspective in Primary Care Digital Change, this work has directly supported the broader goal of improving digital inclusion and ensuring no one is left behind as services move online."

Bianca Matthias, Digital Change Manager – Lewisham South East London Integrated Care System

"As the co-ordinator of Linking Lives in Crofton Park, Catbytes offered support to one of my clients with the mobile phone issues that he had. He wanted to be able to use WhatsApp to contact family overseas in order to significantly reduce his phone call costs. Catbytes offered to assist my client with access as well as offering to provide a phone to be used as the client's own phone couldn't be unlocked."

Kathryn White, Linking Lives co-ordinator

"Catbytes has been invaluable to the clients I have referred. All of the clients Catbytes have supported have been very grateful for the loan of either smart phones or laptops. This has enabled them to improve their digital skills, access the internet and apply for jobs online. Clients have also had the opportunity to keep in touch with family and access their online UC journals which is very important for managing their financial situation.
Catbytes have also been very supportive for those families needing to borrow laptops for their children to complete homework which would not have been possible without these devices. At Lewisham foodbank we greatly value our partnership with Catbytes and look forward to working with them in the future."

Hannah Clarke, Centres Liason Manager, Lewisham Foodbank

Athathi Delri Boothe, South London and Maudsley

"Catbytes is an invaluable and pro-active local resource that I regularly make referrals to, for the participants I am supporting. It helps people maintain and make new connections and lessens social isolation – something we have seen more of in recent years. Catbytes also supports people to become more confident with technology in a world where this is very necessary with its welcoming digital drop-ins around the borough"

Stephanie Bennett Fraser, Advisor Lewisham Wellbeing Hub

"The device loan scheme operated by Catbytes Digital Community has been an invaluable resource to Lewisham looked-after children and children with a social worker. As a referrer from Lewisham Virtual School, our service works with the borough’s most vulnerable children and young people. The loan scheme has been instrumental in helping break down barriers to education for these groups and, consequently, plays an immeasurable role in reducing the attainment gap between care experienced children and young people and their peers."

André Genas, Lewisham Borough Virtual School

"I have found the service that catbytes provide invaluable to the service users I work with. They have supported several of them, from helping someone with the simple task of accessing Internet on his phone, to helping another which writing their CV. And it has helped their confidence.1 As the world is becoming more technology based, it's reassuring that there is a service that help support, a community that already feels unconnected."

Tina Campbell, South London and Maudsley

"The laptop requests helped our clients in reconnecting with family and also taking part in online courses. This was important in rebuilding their confidence and mental health. Your service was valuable to our clients and also to keyworkers knowing that your resource was available to our clients should they needed it."

Clive Alcaraz, Employment Specialist, St Mungos

"At a time in history where access to digital devices and skills are a “must have” for interacting with all kinds of services, the Digital Access for All project has made a real difference to the people we support at Lewisham Works. Access to laptops and digital skills sessions has helped individuals apply for jobs, connect with services and build confidence online. We’ve seen firsthand how this initiative empowers people to overcome digital barriers, opening them up to new opportunities. In addition to this, Catbytes have proved to be a reliable partner, so that once I complete their simple referral process, I can have confidence that the residents digital future will be in safe hands."

Dahlia Parkinson, Employment Specialist, Lewisham Works

"The Digital Access for All Project has been a crucial help for alot of our clients, it has provided the priceless support for people to connect with loved ones and provide support for them to start building their lives, through study and work. An essential tool for people to start integrating on their own terms. The Digital Access for All Project has been a great support for the clients of our charity who are re-building their lives. "

Zoe Pahne, Administrator, Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network

"Digital Access for All has supported learners taking part in our Level 2 horticultural course. We had wanted to design an organic gardening curriculum that catered to different learning and literacy needs whilst still retaining a high level of information and good quality learning materials. Catbytes were there for us when a student required a tablet to produce the illustrated and captioned elements of our workbooks, enabling them to use software that eliminated the dexterity difficulties posed by pen and paper. The student was able to complete the course with less anxiety, and a method of course submission that catered to their learning needs and strengths. Without the technology supplied by this project, they may not have been able to do so "

Lauren Goddard, Sydenham Gardens

"CatBytes provide a digital lifeline for our service users receiving crisis mental health care. Disconnection from the digital world is a common byproduct of mental ill health, often leading to further challenges for the individual including financial hardship, isolation and loss of independence. Our partnership with CatBytes offers service users the opportunity to more easily reconnect with online services at a critical stage of their recovery, offering far reaching benefits to improve wellbeing, autonomy and social connections."

Charles Thomson, Housing Practitioner, Lewisham Directorate South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

"Having this service available in the borough of Lewisham is fantastic. It provides disadvantaged people with opportunities to learn, grow, and gain valuable digital skills. It allows them to access the internet, send emails, and stay connected with their families. I believe this is an amazing initiative, and one that should be available in other boroughs as well.
I think it is so important that people have the opportunity to explore new things and have access to devices . We are living in a time where mental health challenges are increasing, and giving people access to tools and resources they may not have used or understood before is invaluable. This service helps to broaden people’s horizons, showing them what is available and giving them the confidence to support themselves. For example, one participant I work with has now learned how to use the internet to look up self-help tips and coping mechanisms, which has been a huge benefit for their wellbeing. This service has been an incredible support for many of my participants, particularly those who are at a disadvantage—whether financially, because they cannot afford access to a laptop or tablet, or because they need help in learning how to use these devices.
Many of my participants lack confidence and often feel that they are either too old or not "smart enough" to use technology. This service has given them encouragement and reassurance that age and intellect do not matter—everyone can learn. This kind of support is not only practical but also essential, as it empowers people to take positive steps in their lives."

Jamila Hall, Wellbeing Advisor, Together UK

"My name is Sandra Lawson, and I am the Activity Coordinator for an adult mental health project based in Lewisham. Catbytes is a well-established initiative that has become a key point of reference for digital inclusion, particularly for service users who require support in navigating digital tools. Its impact has been profoundly positive, helping to bridge the digital divide and promote inclusion among vulnerable individuals who might otherwise face isolation. By equipping service users with essential digital skills and creating opportunities for local engagement, Catbytes fosters both confidence and a sense of community. Currently, I have a service user eagerly awaiting referral, who is enthusiastic about the opportunity to volunteer and contribute meaningfully to the community. He is especially grateful to have access to such an inspiring and valuable project right on his doorstep. Catbytes continues to be an essential resource for our service in Lewisham, and we look forward to maintaining this strong and impactful partnership. "

Sandra Lawson, Activities Coordinator, Hestia

"SloMo is a digitally supported psychological therapy for people with paranoia (for example in schizophrenia and related conditions). Support with digital inclusion is vital for this population, who are frequently digitally excluded, so that we can continue to ensure equal access to all those who could benefit from the therapy. CatBytes is currently the only initiative we are aware of that are able to provide access to our SLaM service users to the technology required for them to use the SloMo mobile app to support their therapy. We therefore very much hope to be able to continue working with CatBytes in future, to support us in increasing access to psychological therapies for psychosis. "

Katy Taylor, SloMo2 Study Coordinator

"Stanstead Lodge a charity for older people has been running ‘High Tea with IT’ for over ten years, Damian became the lead probably eight years ago and has gone on to form Catbytes and spread the good works throughout the borough. As an older person and an IT graduate in later life I have been only too aware of the need for helping people to overcome their fear of technology. We tried running courses but that didn’t work well, but the ethos of volunteer helpers individually helping beginners to do the things they need to do helps many to not only solve their immediate problem but to go on and become competent enough to solve their issues themselves. "

James Dobson, Manager, Stanstead Lodge

"Catbytes' laptop loan scheme plays a crucial role in helping our service users stay connected with family, friends, and essential services. For many beneficiaries, receiving a device is not just about accessing the internet—it’s about restoring relationships, reducing loneliness, and re-engaging with the wider world. In an age where digital access is essential for everything from GP appointments to social interaction, Catbytes ensures that no one is left behind.
Beyond connectivity, Catbytes empowers our service users by building confidence in their IT skills. Many recipients of loaned devices have never used a computer before, and through gentle guidance and community support, they begin to explore email, video calls, online learning, and more. This transformation fosters independence, improves mental wellbeing, and opens doors to employment, education, and civic participation. Catbytes’ work is rooted in inclusion, dignity, and practical impact. With additional funding, the charity aims to expand its reach, upgrade its equipment, and offer more tailored digital support to those who need it most. In doing so, Catbytes continues to be a lifeline for individuals who would otherwise remain disconnected in an increasingly digital world."

Charles Richards, Lewisham Housing Services

"I am the Lewisham Blindaid sight support worker. I refer and referred some of my Service user's to Catbytes. I am so grateful to this organisation who help so many of my SU, on IT they have lent IT equipments to my service user. The support is friendly and efficient, knowledgeable and approachable. They also help by home visits to my visually impaired service users. Catbytes are instrumental in community. "

Nirmala Gideon, Blind Aid

"Catbytes has been a very valuable support to access for the clients I work with. A few of my clients have very limited IT knowledge & skills and having access to Catbytes to be loaned equipment, attend IT sessions & just generally be supported has helped them further to move closer to, and achieve, their training/employment goals.
Catbytes gives people the chance to use IT equipment to see which is the right one for them. It allows them not to worry about purchasing a piece of IT equipment they may not be able to use, and more importantly, they cannot afford.
Thank you to the Catbytes Team for all you do & the support you provide. It is an amazing service which helps to serve a community that needs it.”

Sharon Green, Employment Specialist Lewisham Borough, South London and Maudsley

"I’ve had the most incredible experience working with CatBytes . The speed and efficiency with which my participants received devices has been outstanding. Thanks to your support, many of them were able to apply for jobs and complete upskilling courses, some of which directly led to employment opportunities. The impact has been truly transformative, and I deeply appreciate the role CatBytes has played in helping individuals overcome digital barriers and move forward with confidence. Wishing you the very best, and I look forward to continuing our partnership.”

Maria Alexandrescu, Restart Advisor, Ingeus

"As a Dementia Adviser working within community settings, I have referred several individuals to Catbytes who experience significant barriers to using technology. Many of these individuals found digital tools overwhelming or inaccessible, which contributed to social isolation and limited engagement with external services. Catbytes has made a real difference in people’s lives. Their work has supported digital inclusion, and through their tailored support, they have helped individuals gain confidence in using technology, overcome digital barriers, access online services, stay informed, and connect and feel part of the community.”

Wahida Khatun, Advisor, Alzheimer's Society

"The service has had a positive impact on our local community by creating a friendly, sociable and learning space at our community centre”

Thea Tait, Administrator, Restorative Justice For All Community Centre

"Catbytes is a great community resource which we refer our clients to for upskilling of digital needs to support day to day activities and applying for jobs. In addition, Catbytes have been fantastic in offering volunteering opportunities for client to gain experience of the working environment.
Catbytes have always helped and assisted our client group with obtaining laptops and phones to enable them to connect with the community and reach work-related goals. I have found them to be a valuable community resource who are happy to help disadvantaged members of the community through the work they do.”

Emma Jarnell, Lewisham Borough IPS Team Leader , South London and Maudsley

"As an Employment Specialist within the NHS, I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact the Digital Access for All project has had on the individuals I refer. Many of our service users face significant barriers to employment, and digital exclusion is often one of them.
Through your service, they’ve gained access to essential devices, digital skills, and confidence that have helped them engage more fully with job searching, online training, and even virtual interviews. One service user shared how receiving a device allowed them to complete an online course to help them upskill which has increased their chances of finding work. Another service user, shared that it has made them feel more confident managing personal tasks online for example paying bills, making applications and all sorts.
Your work is making a real difference, and I’m proud to continue referring individuals who can benefit from it.”

Oluwaseun Daniels, Employment Specialist , South London and Maudsley

"CatBytes is a much needed facility in Silwood Eatate:
My personal experience is really good: as they create a very friendly atmosphere for everyone who participate in their work in the community. As a Community Development Practitioner, I introduced members in the community over a year ago and they are now part parcel of CatBytes programme. They all enjoyed attending the Friday session to participate in the chair exercise, having food and snacks, supporting people who have phone or computer issues; there are games, jewellery making, music and and many more activities that makes participants want be there all the time. ”

Rita Edmonds, Community Development Practitioner, Community Empowerment Support Organisations (CESO)

"I work as a psychologist with people suffering from a variety of complex and ongoing mental health difficulties in the context of childhood trauma. Many of my clients are unable to work and live on very limited incomes, meaning they do not always have access to mobile data or even phone credit, and usually do not have a laptop. We see many of our clients online, sometimes because of a lack of clinic spaces, and other times because the clients are unable to get to the clinic for physical and/or mental health reasons.
On more than one occasion, CatBytes has enabled my clients to access therapy, by providing them with a laptop, and giving them a dongle with mobile data. In addition, they support the clients in how to use the equipment. Furthermore, they are highly responsive, where I have not waited more than a day to hear back from them. And I know that they are equally responsive to the clients.
I cannot speak highly enough of this service, and I have recommended it to numerous colleagues, who I know have had similar experiences to me, where they have felt deeply appreciative of how CatBytes has enabled them to see their clients. This organisation may on the surface sound like it is not needed in this day and age when “everyone” has access to technology. But that is an assumption, as many of the people I work with do not have those kinds of resources, and the work Catbytes does helps level the very uneven playing field in our society. Especially in Lewisham, where a lot of people live in poverty.
Catbytes has offered invaluable support to the work we do in our service, enabling deeply traumatised individuals to access the help they need. I sincerely hope that they will be able to continue doing their work for as long as they are needed. ”

Dr Julia Betancour Roth, Counselling Psychologist, Lewisham Integrated Therapies

"The Catbytes Digital Access Programme has had a great impact on the patients we support who live in Lewisham. Many of the individuals we work with, particularly older members of the community, face significant barriers when it comes to using computers and accessing technology. Your programme has made a real difference in helping them feel more confident, connected, and independent. It’s a vital service, and we’re truly grateful for the support you offer service users. "

Catriona McInnes, Team Lead for Social Prescribing and Health & Wellbeing Coac

"Catbytes has been an invaluable community organisation to the people I support under our Community Mental Health Team. Many of our service users are socially isolated and Catbytes has enabled them to access the internet which has benefited them in so many ways, i.e. reconnecting with family and friends, engaging with online courses and education and other social groups. The digital drop-in service has also provided a space for the service users to access support with using technology in a non judgemental way.
One of our service users who has anxiety and was unable to leave the house was provided with a device through Catbytes, which allowed them to join an online peer support group as well as other services (like online yoga and exercise classes since they couldn't attend an in-person class). For many, Catbytes has had a significant positive impact on their recovery, connecting them with resources they otherwise couldn't access and allowing them to engage with their goals. "

Rezwana Begum, Community Support Planner, South London and Maudsley

"In 2022, my search for support for families unable to afford a device for their child's online home learning led me to Catbytes. They exhibited exceptional professionalism, swiftly confirming our school's eligibility as a referrer, and since then, our collaboration has been seamless. Families I referred have expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity and have frequently praised the warmth and understanding shown to them during device collection.
Having access to a digital device has been transformative for these children, granting them an equal footing with their peers. This access has not only facilitated their educational pursuits but also broadened their horizons by enabling them to engage in digital learning experiences previously beyond their reach. The positive impact on their academic performance and self-esteem is evident, as they can now participate fully in the curriculum and develop essential digital skills.
Furthermore, the support from Catbytes has alleviated the financial strain on families, allowing them to focus on other essential needs. The ripple effect of this assistance extends beyond academics, fostering an inclusive learning environment and empowering families to support their children's educational journeys more effectively.
In essence, Catbytes has played a pivotal role in bridging the digital divide, ensuring that all children have the tools they need to succeed in today's digital world. Their commitment to community support and education equity is not only commendable but essential in nurturing a more inclusive and opportunity-rich future for every child.

"I am an Employment and Training Advisor. I have been working with Catbytes for over 3 years now and I must say they have been one of the most consistent and reliable service for any client I refer to their service. They truly understand the importance of supporting people with their digital challenges.
I have found the referral process very easy and have referred a variety of people – those with no access:
  • To the internet, therefore unable to job search or complete government forms.
  • To a mobile phone due to damage.
  • A laptop to be able to start a college course and keep up with the course.

Every single referral has been successful, and all of my clients have been very happy with the service, support and devices they have received.
Catbytes is one of the most important services that got many people through lockdown but also beyond."

Cassandra Flavius, Employment and Training Advisor, Economy, Jobs & Partnerships, Lewisham Council , Lewisham Council

"As an Occupational therapist in a community mental health team, Catbytes has been an invaluable resource for our clients. Many of our clients have low incomes and struggle to purchase devices and data so being able to borrow a device helps so much.
The Catbytes drop-ins have been a lifeline for our clients to learn more and develop digital skills in a supportive and friendly group in the community. Catbytes promotes social inclusion and the development of practical skills with digital devices which is an essential part of community services in Lewisham. "

Frances Smyth, Occupational Therapist, South London and Maudsley

"We at New Cross Learning community library have been working with Catbytes for a number of years now, and approximately 12 Catbytes volunteers have helped clients out in this time. Without exception, the volunteers have been expert in their fields, patient and kind with often very nervous and inexperienced library users. A lot of library users have very limited or no I.T. skills at all; their needs are varied, from the relatively easy (for the volunteer, not of course for the user) to complex multi-session problems to be solved. Many of our users come to the library specifically naming Catbytes or particular volunteers as their reason for visiting. Catbytes has been able to assist with issues with phones, tablets and laptops, and with problems ranging from word processing and spreadsheet tutorials, writing emails, adding attachments, website creation, regaining access to locked accounts, CV writing and formatting, phone storage issues and so on. Catbytes volunteers have also on occasion helped the library with internal I.T issues.”

Toby, Library Administrator, New Cross Learning

"The Digital Access for All Project has been invaluable to many of the people I have worked with. It provides a lifeline to people who may not otherwise have access to using laptops and phones and giving them confidence in using technology. It fosters independence for the people I work with by being able to do things such as shopping, banking and being in touch with their care team as well as family and friends with greater ease."

Yasmin Begum, Support Time and Recovery Worker, Lewisham Early Intervention Service, South London and Maudsley

"The ongoing support from Catbytes has been instrumental in reaching vulnerable community members who otherwise would not have had the chance to access digital equipment. This access has empowered many individuals to use email, connect with essential online services, and communicate with local authorities, tax offices, housing services, and healthcare providers.
By opening these opportunities, Catbytes has helped remove significant barriers, making it possible for people to participate more fully in the digital world. This has fostered a sense of accomplishment and belonging, ensuring that no one is left behind as society becomes ever more digitally connected. "

Shirley Kirkland, Lee Green Lives Centre Coordinator

"We've partnered with Catbytes for many years to support our members who face digital exclusion due to their disabilities and lack of resources. We know our members are in safe hands with Catbytes and many have attended their digital drop-ins and loaned a device which has enabled them to join our online art groups and do other day-to-day IT tasks. Damian and the team are very supportive and have helped our members grow new skills and confidence. They have also been a great help to the Arts Network team."

Kate Price, CEO, Arts Network, Lewisham

"DCS Empowerment CIC has referred a number of participants to the Digital Access for All project, and the impact has been tangible. Our learners gained confidence using essential digital tools and were better able to access services and employment opportunities. One of our learners was offered a voluntary position so he could use his digital skills to enhance others' knowledge and help him gain employment. The team’s patient, practical support consistently turns digital barriers into real progress"

Carlene Fenton, CEO, DCS

"Catbytes has been a great resource for our clients, from when I was working in Lambeth up until I made the move to Croydon. It's helped the vulnerable people we work with feel connected in what can feel like a disconnected and lonely city. I've also had clients use the technology to apply for jobs and it's also helped connect with family abroad,
Thanks so much for what you are doing!" "

Matt Freeberne, Occupational Therapist, South London and Maudsley

"We're incredibly grateful for the support we have received from Catbytes for many years. The people we support are very destitute, have no recourse to public funds, and often don't have access to phones and computers. Thanks to Catbytes, we have been able to get loans for families so that the children can do their homework, and devices and classes for adults so they can learn how to go online and do various admin tasks such as complete forms etc. This support has been invaluable and the only that is currently available in our community. " "

Louise Vangheluwe, Monitoring & Operations Officer, Action For Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL)

"We’ve really enjoyed our user experience when dealing with Catbytes. They have always been responsive and helpful when it comes to sourcing new tech equipment for our participants, as well as providing affordable computer equipment for our staff. We benefit greatly from Catbytes’ services and will continue to use them in the future, as we find their support for us as a CIC highly beneficial and their work for our participants incredibly valuable. " "

Larryn Lewis, Facework

"As you know I work at a carers centre which provides support to family carers who are often isolated and not digitally connected. In our work we come across carers who face digital exclusion which impacts on so many aspects of their lives and we use every opportunity to promote the need to encourage carers to see the relevance of technology when they are anxious and not confident about using laptops.
When I have made referrals to Catbytes I have always had a speedy response to my requests which have been sympathetically considered. Carers have very much valued your service. We hope to have a continued relationship with Catbytes and will promote your valuable service as much as we can. "

Jenny Pringle, Keeping in Touch Service, Greenwich Carers Centre

"In my role as Social Prescribing Link Worker for a Primary Care Network in Lewisham I have seen that increasingly services are being built on digital self-service models that seem to exclude individuals lacking digital skills, internet access, or comfort with technology. The reliance on digital services is deepening the divide for those already at the fringes of the welfare system, further marginalizing vulnerable groups. Many individuals lack digital skills, awareness of digital services, or motivation to engage, posing significant barriers to participation.
My clients include elderly, lonely, isolated and housebound individuals, physically disabled, people with mental health difficulties who struggle with navigating digital platforms. The work of Catbytes in terms of providing device loans, buddies, digital drop-ins and training has been hugely instrumental in providing easier access to health, social welfare, and other essential services to live more independently and improve their overall well-being. The trust and engagement with Catbytes has helped to address the unique challenges faced by different groups, and has significantly improved the quality of lives of my clients in a positive way.
I believe that Catbytes provides an extremely valuable, yeoman service to the people of Lewisham and must be allowed to continue its work for the foreseeable future. "

Natasha Rao Rayasam, Social Prescribing Link Worker, Lewisham Allia

"Catbytes has made a transformative difference to Lewisham Council housing residents. Through their digital inclusion work, families (many in temporary accommodation) have received laptops to support their young people in school, while many other residents have gained access to essential devices like phones and computers.
These tools have opened doors to services, communication, and independence that would otherwise be out of reach. Crucially, Catbytes’ training and drop-in sessions have created a safe, non-judgemental space for residents to build confidence in digital skills, helping them stay connected and benefit from the opportunities that come with being online. "

Alys Exley-Smith, Community Relations Manager, Housing and Communities, Lewisham Council

"Catbytes is a unique innovative organisation, repairing and upgrading secondhand computers to loan to people who need them. I have referred many individuals and families to them over the past five years. See below some stories of those assisted. Two Afghani sisters in my ESOL class had lost their husband's to Covid.
Both women had been totally dependent on their husband's and their children required computers to do their homework. Catbytes was able to provide computers which was vital in helping these bereaved children keep up at school.
Four members of Syrian refugee family attended our ESOL speaking and listening class during the summer holidays. Their problem was not knowing their area, as without college classes they were confined to their hostel for six weeks and had no way of finding free places to visit. Catbytes provided a computer which proved invaluable as South London opened up for them, they would attend the class each Friday giving details of all the places they had visited.
Catbytes has a small team of staff who train volunteers to repair IT equipment. They hold classes for people requiring IT support, in house and in community centres. The organisation is flexible and innovative, responding to the needs of their clients, and is truly Community led. "

Helen Nicholas – Refugee support worker, Corbett community library

"Catbytes has really helped many of our clients by getting them online and building their confidence with technology. They give out free laptops, phones, and tablets, and run drop-in sessions across Lewisham where people can learn how to use them at their own pace. This support has helped clients apply for jobs, manage benefits, book GP appointments, fill out forms, stay in touch with family, and generally feel more connected.
One of my clients was housebound and said they felt very lonely. After receiving a laptop from Catbytes, they were able to join online groups, make new friends, and get support when they needed it. "

Sally Lane, Partnership Coordinator, Community Connections Lewisham

"Our services support unpaid carers in Lewisham, and with help from Catbytes, many of our clients have gained access to digital tools and support. This has enabled them to work, train, or access educational resources from home while continuing to care for their loved ones. The ongoing support from Catbytes, including drop-in sessions, has made a real difference, helping to ease some of the pressure on carers and improve their overall wellbeing "

Adeel Iqbal, Unpaid Carers Wellbeing Coordinator, Imago

"I just wanted to say a huge thank you from all of us at the CORE team in Croydon for the incredible support you've provided by lending laptops to our clients.

Your service has made a real and lasting impact. Many of the people we work with are facing serious mental health challenges, often alongside poverty and social isolation. Without access to digital tools, you have provided they were at risk of falling further behind—unable to connect with services, attend online therapy, apply for jobs, or even stay in touch with loved ones and meet us on TEAMS.

Thanks to you, our clients have been able to:

  • Break the isolation that so often comes with poor mental health as it’s a window in a very grey world!
  • Access vital online support and wellbeing resources such as gp’s appts, hospital forms etc – without this there would be disengagement from Clinical care.
  • Reconnect with family, friends, and community networks improving isolation which can lead to costly hospital admissions and remove community care and associations.
  • Take steps toward employment, education, and independence and improving social inclusion.

To put it simply: we don’t know what we’d do without you. Your support has helped bridge a critical gap and given people the chance to move forward with dignity and hope. "

Tina Arul, Vocational and Reablement Team Leader, South London and Maudsley

"Many food bank clients struggle to afford technology - which is essential nowaday. Not being able to make calls, send messages or look up information on the internet makes modern life really hard to navigate and is socially isolating. Receiving a smartphone reconnects our clients, and is often the first step towards addressing other wider issues. "

Kate Sing'ombe, Foodbank Manager, Bromley Borough Foodbank

"Catbytes has been a vital partner for the Community Connections team, particularly in supporting digital inclusion across Lewisham. Over the past year, we signposted more than 160 residents to Catbytes, many of whom were older individuals feeling overwhelmed by the shift to online services. Catbytes has been a lifeline, helping people build confidence, develop digital skills, and stay connected in an increasingly digital world. Their support has enabled more inclusive access to essential services and improved wellbeing for those who might otherwise be left behind. "

Elaine Egan, Project Manager/Facilitation, Age UK Lewisham and Southwark

"As a vocational specialist working to support the recovery of those who endure mental health illness, it is key to my role that the people I support are able to access appropriate services that can aid in meeting their aims. Catbytes as an organisation has been invaluable to me and the people I work with and as we continue in our society increasingly use digital services to enable us in daily life the services of Catbytes are even more so a necessary and important. "

Anoushka Simpson, Vocational Specialist, South London and Maudsley

"In the twenty-first century, the rise of digital technologies permeates every aspect of human existence. From communication and commerce to education and professional life, digital skills have become as fundamental as reading and writing. The ability to navigate digital landscapes, harness tools, and utilise online resources is no longer reserved for specialists—it is an essential competency for all. Although digital skills are crucial in both everyday life and the workplace, the Borough of Lewisham has traditionally had a relatively low level of digital skills within the community, especially those from an ethnic background.
Digital devices and platforms are woven into the fabric of daily routines. Smartphones, tablets, laptops, and smart appliances have altered how people communicate, shop, learn, and entertain themselves. Basic digital skills—such as sending emails, browsing the internet, or using social media—are prerequisites for engaging with the world. Without these, individuals may find themselves isolated, unable to access vital information, services, and opportunities.
Catbytes, who started off initially by creating a single digital drop-in available to everyone, have now established a significant number of similar facilities across the borough, which have proved vital to those seeking to improve their digital skills. Working in partnership with other organisations such as Phoenix Community Housing, they have provided key volunteer digital support. Similarly, Phoenix have referred many individuals to various Catbytes digital drop-ins, for the loan of equipment or the provision of SIM cards, or where they may be able to receive specialist support.
In this modern day and age where technology affects everyone, digital skills are no longer “a nice to have”. They are an essential aid to helping improve individual’s lives and wellbeing, whilst also saving time and money. As technology develops at such a rapid pace, it is increasingly important to provide appropriate digital support to those that need this, and Catbytes is extremely well placed to continue to offer this vital service.
